Ohio death penalty opponents urge Gov. John Kasich to postpone executions

Ohioans to Stop Executions delivered 27,503 signatures to Kasich’s office, urging the Republican governor to postpone the state’s 27 scheduled executions. The petition calls for better safeguards to prevent innocent people from being sentenced to death, including 2014 recommendations from the Ohio Supreme Court’s death penalty task force.

Faith leaders, others urge Kasich to halt resumption of Ohio executions

With the resumption of executions in Ohio a week away, a coalition of clergy, former corrections officials, death row exonerees and crime victims Wednesday called on Gov. John Kasich to block the lethal injection of child killer Ronald Phillips.

Representatives of the faith community, correctional officers, victims’ families, and exonerated death row inmates joined forces Tuesday to urge Gov. John Kasich to block Ohio’s plan to resume carrying out executions next week.
