Representatives of the faith community, correctional officers, victims’ families, and exonerated death row inmates joined forces Tuesday to urge Gov. John Kasich to block Ohio’s plan to resume carrying out executions next week.

Three condemned Ohio killers have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to delay their executions. The request to Justice Elena Kagan comes as the inmates continue to challenge the state’s new lethal injection method. Kagan handles such appeals for Ohio.

Ohio moves forward with plans to execute Ronald Phillips in one week

Ohio is set to execute 43-year-old #Ronald Phillips on July 26. He is scheduled for the state’s first execution since January 16, 2014, when it took 26 minutes to execute Dennis McQuire as he struggled for life – gasping, seizing, and snorting.
