Column: Want to keep Ohio’s death penalty? Fix it first.

Even Ohioans who staunchly support capital punishment want the death penalty to be both fair and accurate. This is why I applaud Gov. Mike DeWine’s rescheduling of the Feb. 13 execution of Warren Keith Henness, which has now been moved to September.

DeWine ordered the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to evaluate possible alternative drugs for use in lethal injections. It has become evident that the drugs our state has been using are causing severe suffering in the prisoner, tantamount to torture. This is against Ohio law and prohibited by Ohio’s Constitution.
